The eagerly and highly anticipated mega-fight of Puerto Rican 4-division world champion Miguel Cotto facing Mexican challenger Saul Canelo Alvarez heats up almost a month a half and away. The Nevada Athletic Commission on Thursday in Las Vegas has finally named the third man in the ring for the said championship bout, its no other than veteran boxing referee Robert Byrd.
Byrd was the referee in Cotto’s last fights - last-round stoppage of Ricardo Mayorga in 2011 and Cotto’s TKO of Juan Angel Macias in 2002. Byrd has worked with Canelo’s split decision win over Erislandy Lara last year.
Also, NAC has selected the three judges for the Cotto vs. Canelo fight on the said meeting. They were Burt Clements, Dave Moretti and John McKaie.
